What to expect From TMS

Step One: Evaluation

The first step is a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation with Dr. Gus Alva. The initial assessment focuses on an accurate diagnosis, past treatment, exploring if a patient is a good candidate for TMS and determining the risks and benefits of treatment. This initial session will take approximately one hour.

Step Two: Treatment sessions

Your individualized TMS prescription will be utilized to begin your daily treatment sessions. Sessions last approximately 40 minutes and take place 5 days a week for approximately 4-6 weeks. You remain awake and alert during treatment and can drive and return to your normal routine immediately afterwards.

Step Three: Mood Questionnaire

After every week of treatment you will complete a mood questionnaire, which Dr. Alva personally reviews. This log helps us track your progress and any need for dosage adjustment.

Step Four: Follow up

At the end of the treatment you will have an appointment with Dr. Alva to review your treatment progress, coordinate your care with other providers and discuss additional recommendations if necessary.
